Roseau - chattel houses

Après l'abolition de l'esclavage en 1834, les anciens esclaves engagés comme ouvriers agricoles avaient le droit de posséder une maison située sur les terres de la plantation à condition qu'elle puisse être démontée et déménagée ailleurs si le travailleur démissionnait. On les appelait des "chattel houses" car elles pouvaient être déplacées en même temps que les autres effets et biens mobiliers de l'ouvrier.
